I seem to need constant reminders about what I should do. This is one of those songs that is just that, a reminder on what to do, where to focus, and of what is true.
A funny story about this song... I was travelling with Peggy Parsons, the first week this song/CD came out. We were in Southern Oregon visiting our good friends Jan & Bob Rodriguez. Jan & Peggy & I were on a little adventure going over to the coast through a little place called Takilma... I was just saying (I was driving) that I hate "do overs" and having to turn around at dead ends, and huh, wouldn't you know the paved road ran out. Being as I was driving Ms. Parsons brand new PT Cruiser I decided it wasn't a good idea to take her on the gravel road... so I turned around. As I travelled back to the main road we saw a woman hitchhiking up ahead. She was in a very pretty flowing dress, with very pretty flowing hair, and we decided to offer her a ride. She got in the car and brought a waft of ganja perfume with her, and informed us that she was late for her shift as a radio announcer on the local radio station. So we swept her off to her work, and then we were on our way. After we were on our way, Peggy & I looked at each other both realizing the stupidity of our ways. "We had a radio lady in the car and didn't give her your NEW CD!" So, we turned around again, went back to the place where we dropped her off and Peggy bravely went hiking into the brush to find the hidden trailer with the radio lady. She came back successful. She found her, and told her our story, and the lady agreed to play a song from my new CD. She agreed to play #4, Art of Life, so we took off toward the beach once again, this time with the radio on. I was still driving-- and this was a mistake. We heard the radio lady come on and explain that her show was usually reggae, but that she had a visitation from some visiting sisters and was going to play a brand new CD. The song she cued was Walk On, not Art of Life, which was pretty funny in itself, as I was trying to minimize the preachiness of the first airplay -- but I guess God had other ideas. When I heard my song, my voice on the radio in the car I sort of went numb... well there was no sort of about it-- I went blank. I hear that Peggy had to take my foot off the gas, and steer us to the side of the road. Then she had to catch me as my knees buckled after getting out of the car. Then I went all giddy. A somewhat embarrassing story, but a good one all the same. Do overs don't seem to be boring, but an adventure all in themselves.
Chorus I
Walk on Walk on
The Battle goes on
The Lord will fight for you
You need only to be still (let go)
Walk on, Walk on, Walk on
1. Fight the good fight of the faith
Take hold of the eternal life
To which you were called
When you made your good confession
In the presence of many witnesses (1 Timothy 6.12)
For our struggle is not against flesh & blood,
But against the rulers, against the powers
Of this dark world & against the spiritual
Forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6.12)
2. I have stilled & quieted my soul
Like a weaned child is my soul within me. (Psalm 131.2)
The fruit of righteousness will be peace,
The effect of righteousness will be quietness
And confidence forever. (Isaiah 32)
Be still & know that I am God (Psalm 46.10)
Be still, Walk on…
Chorus II
Walk on, Walk on, The Battle goes on,
Walk on, Walk on and on and on
Walk on.
The Lord will fight for you,
You need only to let go, Walk on,
Walk on, Walk on…
Walk by faith & not by sight,
Walk on.
3. If we walk in the light as He is in the light
We have fellowship with one another. (Isaiah 2)
Love is patient, Love is kind, it does not envy,
Love does not boast, it is not arrogant or rude.
It is not resentful. Love does not rejoice in evil,
But rejoices in the truth. Love always hopes,
Always trusts, always perseveres.
Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13)
